Gambian Literature and writings

Went to Farafenne Primary school (1975 - 1981) then Armitage High school (1981 - 1987).

Studied at The Gambia College (1990 - 1992), Université de Franche-Comte in Besançon France (1992 - 1993), Saint Mary's University through the extension program (1997 - 2000), and Université de Limoges (2001 - 2004).

Taught at Saint Augustine's Secondary technical school and Junior secondary school (1987 - 1990: 1994 - 1997), Crab Island Middle school (1993 - 1994), Gambia High school (1992) and Marina International school (2000 - 2001).

Lectured at the Alliance Franco-Gambienne (1994 - 2006) and lectures at the University of The Gambia (2001 - to date).

Was studio manager at the Alliance Franco-Gambian cultural center.

Conducted French programs (1994 - 2006): Radio Syd, Radio Gambia, Sud FM radio and City Limits radio.

Played in the movie series Banjul Cops as Dr Omar produced by Vinasha productions (episodes 1 and 2)

Played in a drama play directed by Mrs. Janet Badjan-Young: The Ultimate Inheritance (in English and Wolof and filmed by the Gambia Family Planning Multimedia Unit)

Wrote several articles both in French and in English on Gambian literature and education in The Daily Observer, The Point and The Independant newspapers.

Co-convener of the International conference on Oral literature in The Gambia by ISOLA (2004).

Presented several papers in several topics particularly on Gambian Literature and Education and in several countries: Serrekunda in 2004 (The Gambia) co-organised by the University of The Gambia and The French Cooperation; Limoges and Poitiers in 2005 (France) organised by the University of Limoges; Boulder, Colorado in 2005 (The United States of America) organised by the African Literature Association; Dakar in 2006 (Senegal) organised by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie; Geneva in 2006 (Switzerland) organised by the University of Geneva.

Fluent in English and French. Speaks Mandinka, Wollof and Pulaar.

Presently preparing a PhD thesis in Limoges, France on the topic: The analysis of Literary texts and books in the Gambian system of education and the criteria of choice of these learning materials for The Gambia.
